The evidence that microplastics are making anyone hungrier is, at this point, non-existent.

The review flags an interesting possibility: a typical Western diet — heavy on ultra-processed food, light on fiber — may leave the gut microbiome less resilient in the face of environmental hits like microplastic exposure. Fiber is what your beneficial gut bacteria eat. Less fiber, fewer short-chain fatty acids, thinner protective mucus layer, more vulnerability.

That's not a detox promise — there's no diet that scrubs your body clean of microplastics — but a well-fed microbiome and a regular digestive rhythm probably won't hurt.
